Belize 2010_13

We needed to go into town to get some more bait to go fishing so we thought we would stock up on water as well. When we were walking back to the boat with the water we ran into J&G riding their bikes. We ended up taking Jay and his bike in the boat down to his place so he could get his snorkel gear and come with us. We docked at his place and we saw Gwynne riding her bike up the beach so now we know its not that much faster. Jay got his stuff and we headed out to the reef south of his hotel. We anchored and I jumped in, all I could see was grass so I hopped back in the boat and we moved even more south. I jumped in again and saw a ton of fish granted they were all small.

I snorkeled for a good little while and saw 2 huge angle fish, what I call a city of fish (the most amount of fish I have ever seen), 2 sharks which was really scary because I was the only one in the water (Karlene jumped in and I saw that they were interested in the chum that Matt threw out for the fish but it was a lot more calming to have another person in the water with me) and some rays. It was a great snorkel and I was getting chilly so I decided to get back in the boat and do some fishing. Karlene unhooked us from the coral several times and even moved the boat closer to the fish by dragging the anchor. The fish were sneaky little buggers taking our bait every time we threw a cast. The sharks and ray hung out for quiet a while and Matt and Jay just put their snorkel masks on and dunked their heads into the water. They were quiet impressed with what they saw from the boat.

Karlene jumped in the boat and we moved south a little more to the next coral out crop to fish some more. As soon as we were anchored we saw 2 gorgeous spotted eagle rays swim by. The sun was going down and Matt said we have 10mins to catch something or it was time to go. Karlene and I went into serious fish mode. Matt stuck his head in the water again to see what he could see. He told us to throw our bait about 10 feet away in front of a piece of coral. I snagged a big one and it got away. I cast again and this time I snagged it and brought it all the way in. It was big enough to keep (barely) and so we were having fish n' chips for dinner, finally! We called it good and took Jay home just as the sun was setting.

As soon as we got home Matt and I started on dinner because dad was getting a ride from Doug to the Road Kill Bar for Jam Night and he needed to be fed. Matt, Karlene and I pigged out on fish n' chips, got ready to go out and headed into town to Road Kill. The jam had already started and J&G had front row seats. We grabbed a drink and sat down with them. Dad took me up on stage to look at the song list to pick one to sing. Gino showed up and he sang a few songs and then it was our turn. I grabbed Karlene and we got on stage. We sang "Saw Her Standing There" by the Beatles. Karlene and I know that song by heart but when we get up on stage its like we've never heard of it! So embarrassing. Karlene took the first chance she could to sit back down when the song was over and I stayed and sang "back up" for Doug on two more songs. Good thing I had had a few drinks. Matt recorded us on my camera I still haven't watched them.

When I was done Karlene and I played Connect Four (jumbo version). She warned me that she was going to kick my ass, very politely. Five moves in I won! We had a good laugh about that and played a few more. When the band was all packed up we went to Central Park for shrimp burritos. Dad got ride home from Doug and me, Matt and Zach raced them home. Around the first corner Matt went down. He slammed on his breaks because I turned in front of him and he forgot that we turned there. It looked like a motorcycle accident when the bike falls on its side and slides without the rider. No harm done, a few scuffs here and there and we still beat dad and Doug on the golf cart.

Doug came in for a night cap with dad and Matt while I chugged as much water as my stomach could take. Then it was bedtime.

  1. Ah, there's always got to be one bike accident!

    The fish looks good.

Wish I could have joined you for a jam
