Cueva del Indio

After our fabulous tour of the caves we drove back to Arecibo to the hand painted signs we saw the night before (Matt took all the pictures except of course the ones he is in). We parked and a lady named Carmen came out to greet us. We asked her if this was where we got a tour of the petrified sand dunes. She said yes and she went to get her shoes. We asked if the dogs were ok and she said of course I love dogs. She was telling us that they were in the process of putting a castle back together that was used in the filming of Treasure Island here. That movie is not out yet and I can't remember the other movies she mentioned that were filmed here. She took us around and told us that this was basically used as a hide out for the Indians when the Spanish invaded.

There was a tunnel that the Indians could dive in and swim out the other side if needed. There were a ton of petroglyphs (and even some graffiti petroglyphs that the person responsible got in big trouble for) there was also a game that the Indians would through a nut of a fruit in a hole and it would come out the bottom. There where holes in the rocks that they called windows and there were 7 windows total. Carmen took us on a good hours walk around we ended up at a plaque for a man that died in the 70's from fishing and got swept away. They only excepted donations for the tour as this was not a government owed park. So we know next time that we can go exploring by ourselves.
